MAIN STREET UNION CITY ANNOUNCES ‘HOMETOWN HERO’ BANNER PROGRAM

UNION CITY, TENN. – Main Street Union City has announced its 2024-26 “Hometown Hero” banner program as a fundraiser for the organization. This program was launched back in 2020 as a way to honor local veterans.

The mission of this program is to honor and recognize Union City area servicemen and women who have served or given their lives to our country in the United States Armed Forces.

The “Hometown Hero” banners will be placed on the light poles along First St. and Washington Ave. in the downtown district from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This is a two-year program. After the two-year display period, the family members who purchased the banners will have the opportunity to keep the banner.

In order to be considered for a banner, the nominee must meet the following requirements: 1) lived in Union City or Obion County at some point in their lifetime; 2) served in one of the following branches: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, Coast Guard; and 3) meet one of the following criteria: currently serving, honorably discharged veteran, died in the line of duty.

“The Main Street Board and I are excited to bring back this program and offer a fresh look for the ‘Hometown Hero’ banners,” said Katie Graves, executive director for Main Street Union City. “A lot of our community members enjoy seeing their loved ones recognized, and we want to continue honoring those who served our country, who currently serve and who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”

A $300 donation is requested for each banner application submitted. There is a limited number of banners, and they are first-come, first-served.
