Position Overview
The Executive Director serves as the central coordinator, leader, and visionary for Main Street Union City. Employed by the Board of Directors, this individual acts as the primary liaison between the local board and state/national Main Street programs. The director focuses exclusively on driving economic vitality, historic preservation, and community engagement in our historic downtown district.
Core Responsibilities
● Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute annual revitalization work plans utilizing the Main Street Four-Point Approach (Design, Economic Vitality, Promotion, and Organization).
● Administrative & Fiscal Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, including budgeting, financial record-keeping, purchasing, and compliance reporting for national and state funding entities.
● Public Relations & Advocacy: Act as the public face of downtown Union City through media appearances, speaking engagements, and community education programs to maintain high visibility.
● Merchant & Property Support: Partner with local merchants and property owners to advise on physical
improvements, façade grants, and financial incentives (tax credits, low-interest loans).
● Committee & Stakeholder Coordination: Align activities across volunteer committees, local public officials, city council, and community groups like the Obion County Chamber of Commerce.
Key Annual Events & Initiatives
● Signature Events Portfolio: Coordinate and execute community-wide events including the Spring Open House & Art Crawl, Downtown Clean Up Day, Main Street Supporters Night, Downtown Trick or Treat, and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting & Open House.
● Funding Campaigns: Spearhead the annual Supporter Campaign (invoice management, tracking, website updates, and outreach) and actively pursue local, state, and federal grants.
Tools & Tech Proficiency
● Financial & Admin: QuickBooks Online (training available), Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Google Workspace.
● Marketing & Outreach: Constant Contact (email newsletters), Canva, WordPress (website updates), and various social media platforms.
Compliance & Professional Development
● Maintain accredited Main Street status by attending at least three state-sanctioned events annually (Quarterly Tennessee Main Street Trainings, Governor’s Conferences, or state-issued webinars).
● Attend monthly City Orientation and maintain strong collaborative ties with local municipal leaders.
