MAIN STREET AND VITAL FARMS COLLABORATE ON UNIQUE DOWNTOWN ART PROJECT

UNION CITY, TENN. – Main Street Union City is working closely with a new supporter to bring unique art projects downtown to brighten up the district. Vital Farms, a national consumer food brand whose mission is to bring ethical food to our tables, is kicking off this initiative by designing vinyl wraps for two electrical boxes in the downtown district.

“We have been looking for fun and quirky ways to add activity and pops of color to our downtown,” said Katie Graves, executive director of Main Street. “We recently added art to dumpsters, and the Main Street board thought it would be neat to add art to our downtown electrical boxes. Vital Farms is a new supporter of Main Street this year, and we wanted them to be included in this fun project with the gift they gave us.”

The vinyl wrap designs were thoughtfully created by Lauren Hanigan, Graphic Design Lead at Vital Farms. Hanigan has over a decade of experience in bringing brands to life through the power of illustration and visual storytelling. This project was a particular favorite of hers, a whimsical and playful expression of life on the pasture for the hens and dairy cows who make Vital Farms eggs and butter.

“In my seven years as a graphic designer with Vital Farms, this has been one of the most creatively energizing projects I’ve ever worked on. It allowed us to push Vital Farms’ signature style into new territory: a playful, Van Gogh-inspired landscape of rolling hills and swirling botanicals. We had so much fun developing this unique tribute to our pasture-raised ladies,” said Hanigan. “We hope these designs bring a little extra fresh air and sunshine to the community of Main Street Union City.”

Residents can expect to see these graphics installed in the next few weeks.

Main Street has also partnered with the graphic design students at the University of Tennessee at Martin on another electrical box. Thanks to a connection through Sarah Haig, professor and chair of the Department of Visual and Theatre Arts, students from professor Amy Bartell’s “Introduction to Graphic Design” class will be working closely with Main Street to present designs for the third electrical box and will be able to see their designs become a reality when they are installed.

“This partnership with UT Martin is very exciting,” said Graves. “Connecting with these students and faculty will open up a door for us to work together on future design projects. We love having UT Martin so close and giving the students real-world scenarios and applications.”

A “call-for-artists” will be released soon from Main Street for the final two electrical boxes. The organization will be looking for two more designers to submit their applications and design mockups to be considered for the remaining electrical boxes.
